This morning, Greggs has had to close stores all over the country after being the latest major chain to experience an apparent IT problem, according to customers.
Hungry commuters have taken to social media to complain about not being able to get their morning pastry and coffee fix due to a ‘problem with the chain’s tills’.
This comes after McDonald’s, Sainsbury’s, Argos, and Tesco all encountered significant tech problems in the last week.
A customer posted on X: ‘Hey, why are all the Greggs stores shut in Cardiff with temporarily closed signs on, but staff are inside baking? What time will they be open today?’
Another wrote: ‘Why are all of the stores in Newcastle city centre closed?’ while a third added: ‘Greggs closed in Manchester, this could cause a riot.’
Metro has reached out to Greggs for a statement.
Two of the UK’s largest supermarket chains – Tesco and Sainsbury’s – were hit with technical issues last weekend.
Sainsbury’s customers were unable to make contactless payments after an overnight software update, and the company was not able to fulfill the ‘vast majority’ of online deliveries.
Argos, which is owned by Sainsbury’s, was also impacted by the software update, causing some customers to potentially have problems ordering new items or collecting orders in-store.
Meanwhile, Tesco had to cancel some online orders that were scheduled for delivery.
Both chains apologized to customers and later said the unrelated issues were fixed.
