A furious Jurgen Klopp left in a hurry after being asked a ‘foolish question’ following Liverpool’s FA Cup defeat at Manchester United.
Liverpool’s hopes of winning four important prizes were ended on Sunday at the hands of their main rivals after Amad Diallo scored the deciding goal in 121st minute.
For the most part, the Reds did not look like themselves, with Klopp complaining that the number of games his team has played this season had finally taken its toll at Old Trafford.
The manager himself was clearly worn out and that may explain why he was angry with one particular reporter after the match.
In an interview with Norwegian television channel VSport1, Klopp was asked by the interviewer: ‘Normally intensity is the name of your game, so how come it became so difficult in extra time?’
With a puzzled look on his face, the German responded sharply: ‘Bit of a foolish question I feel…
‘We have played, I don’t know how many games recently. I don’t know how many games United have exactly played.
‘That’s sport. I’m really disappointed with that question, but you thought, obviously, it’s good.’
The reporter replied: ‘So, too many games,’ but Klopp had had enough, patting him on the shoulder and forcing his way past him.
As he walked away, he said: ‘Come on, you are obviously not in a great shape and I have no nerves for you.’
It is hardly the first time Klopp has had a chilly encounter with the media. Only last week he seemed to take a jab at Sky Sports’ hiring of ex-referee Mike Dean following Liverpool’s draw with Manchester City.
He sarcastically said: ‘Again, you will find people… don’t you employ Mike Dean, is he working for Sky?
‘Congratulations, that’s a great appointment by the way. He will find something and all the others as well.’
