Logan Paul claims he turned down the opportunity to fight Mike Tyson before his brother Jake Paul agreed to a deal – but his younger sibling has dismissed the suggestion, stating that he has no idea ‘why he would say that’.
It was announced last week that YouTube sensation Jake Paul, 27, would enter the ring with heavyweight legend Tyson, 57, at Texas’ 80,000-seater AT&T Stadium – home of the Dallas Cowboys – on July 20.
The event will be broadcast live on Netflix and it expected to attract huge viewership, despite doubts about the significant age difference between the two fighters.
The likes of Eddie Hearn, Conor McGregor and Dana White have all expressed their concerns over the event and Paul’s manager, Nakisa Bidarian, has responded to the backlash, branding Matchroom chief Hearn a ‘hypocrite’.
Jake Paul’s own brother has now revealed his uneasiness about the upcoming fight, disclosing that he had declined a ‘crazy’ offer to battle with the veteran Tyson, who he labelled ‘senile’.
‘For both Mike and Jake… the bag… I don’t know if you can say no. I said no to fighting Mike Tyson. I was offered it but not on Netflix and not for a big-ass bag,’ Logan Paul said on his Impaulsive podcast, sat alongside KSI and Mike Majlak.
‘It was just like a, “Oh, this could be a real fight”. I’ve been asked before and I’m sure you [KSI] have too and my answer was and will be: “Yes”.
‘I just think he’s too old, bro! It’s crazy. He’s senile.’
Jake Paul is confused by his siblings claims, insisting Tyson had not been offering fighters any deals prior to their agreement.
‘It is not true. We are the ones that brought the deal to Mike Tyson so I don’t know why he would say that,’ Jake Paul, nicknamed The Problem Child, said on Adin Ross’ Kick stream.
‘My team struck a deal with Netflix, and then went to other fighters to get them involved.
‘It started with Tommy Fury but he wanted more money and there wasn’t more money and then we went to Mike Tyson, and after months of talking, we got him to be down to fight.
‘Mike Tyson wasn’t offering people deals so I don’t know what he’s talking about.
Asked why Logan would make such a claim, he replied: ‘I don’t know. We were the ones offering the deal to fight.’
Jake Paul went on to call KSI a ‘f***ing woman’ for running scared while he was busy ‘changing the sport of boxing’ with the ‘biggest fight of the 21st century’.
Asked why his big brother appears to act differently on the internet, he replied: ‘When he gets around KSI it suddenly switches because KSI’s energy towards me is negative and that, I think, pulls him [Logan] in that direction,’
‘But you want to know the difference between Mike Tyson and KSI? It’s that Mike Tyson will actually fight me, so who is the woman now?
‘That’s the difference bro. “Oh, Mike’s this, Mike’s 57…”, but Mike signed the contract you f***ing woman, KSI!
'You can express any opinion, but you're overweight, active in Sidemen YouTube videos while I'm transforming the boxing industry, the most significant fight of the 21st century.'
