Ariel Henry has stepped down as Haiti’s prime minister, setting the stage for a new government to assume power. The country has been plagued by gang violence that resulted in more than 2,500 casualties from January to March. Henry submitted his resignation in a letter signed in Los Angeles on April 24, which was released on Thursday by his office. This occurred on the same day that a council responsible for appointing a new prime minister and Cabinet for Haiti was inaugurated. Meanwhile, Henry’s Cabinet selected Economy and Finance Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert as the interim prime minister. It remains unclear when the transitional council will appoint its own interim prime minister.
