Marjorie Taylor-Greene, a hard-right Rep. from Georgia, submitted a “motion to vacate” during a House vote on a $1.2 trillion package to keep the government open. This is similar to what led to the ousting of the previous Republican speaker, Kevin McCarthy, just five months ago. McCarthy was the first speaker to be removed after far-right conservatives rebelled against his compromise with Democrats to prevent a federal shutdown. The House is set to go on a spring recess after Friday’s session, so it's unlikely that a vote on Johnson’s removal would happen immediately. Johnson’s spokesman has stated that he is “focused on governing.”
