This is similar to what led to the ousting of the previous Republican speaker, Kevin McCarthy, just five months ago. McCarthy was the first speaker to be removed after far-right conservatives rebelled against his compromise with Democrats to prevent a federal shutdown. The House is set to go on a spring recess after Friday’s session, so it's unlikely that a vote on Johnson’s removal would happen immediately.
