Prosecutors have announced a deal with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to dismiss securities fraud charges that were pending against him for nearly a decade. The resolution of Paxton’s criminal case was announced during a court hearing Tuesday in Houston. Prosecutors say they will drop three felony counts against Paxton if he fulfills the terms of the deal. The resolution allows Paxton to avoid a trial, which had been scheduled to begin April 15. If he had been found guilty, Paxton could have been sentenced to life in prison. The conclusion of the case comes six months after Paxton was cleared of corruption charges in an impeachment trial in the Texas Senate.
