A district attorney in Oklahoma stated that he does not intend to press charges in the case of Nex Benedict, the nonbinary 16-year-old Owasso teenager whose death following a fight in a high school bathroom was ruled a suicide. Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler stated in a release on Thursday that the altercation between Nex and three girls was considered an “instance of mutual combat.” Kunzweiler also mentioned that Owasso police found a “suicide note” written by Benedict, but he did not disclose its contents. The state medical examiner concluded recently that Benedict’s death resulted from a drug overdose and was ruled a suicide.
