Syrian state media reports an Israeli airstrike destroyed the consular section of Iran’s embassy in Damascus, resulting in the deaths or injuries of everyone inside. The Iranian Arabic-language state television Al-Alam says the strike killed an Iranian military adviser who once led the Iranian elite Quds Force in Lebanon and Syria. Iran’s ambassador says as many as seven people were killed but first responders are still searching for any other bodies under the rubble. The ambassador and Syria’s foreign minister have condemned Israel. Israel’s military did not immediately comment. Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets in government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years.
