US employers reduced their hiring in April, which might lead the Fed to lower interest rates
The country’s employers reduced their hiring in April but still added a good 175,000 jobs, indicating that the consistently high interest rates might be starting to slow the strong U.S. job market. The increase in hiring last month was significantly lower than the impressive 315,000 in March. However, the decrease in the rate of hiring, combined with a slowdown in wage growth last month, will probably be seen as positive by the Federal Reserve. The Fed has kept interest rates at a 20-year high to combat consistently high inflation. Hourly wages only increased by 0.2% from March and 3.9% from a year ago, the smallest annual increase since June 2021.
