The Democratic president concluded a lengthy and challenging battle with Republicans on Wednesday to secure urgently needed aid for Ukraine. However, the Biden administration's efforts to assist Ukraine in repelling Russia's invasion have been significantly hindered during the months-long funding standoff. Despite the new weapons and ammunition, it's unlikely that Ukraine will swiftly recover after months of setbacks. Nonetheless, Biden states that the legislation will enhance global security as the U.S. supports its allies in their fight against terrorists and dictators.
Supreme Court justices are raising questions about whether state bans on abortions during medical emergencies conflict with federal healthcare law after the sweeping ruling overturning Roe v. Wade. The case being heard Wednesday will determine when doctors can provide abortions during medical emergencies in states with bans enacted after the Roe v. Wade ruling. The case comes from Idaho, which is among 14 states that ban abortion at all stages of pregnancy with limited exceptions. The Biden administration argues federal healthcare law says hospitals must be allowed to terminate pregnancies in rare emergencies when a patient’s life or health is at serious risk. Idaho contends its ban has exceptions for life-saving abortions.
