An American soldier has been arrested in Russia and accused of stealing. That’s according to two U.S. officials who spoke to The Associated Press. The soldier, who is not being identified, was stationed in South Korea and was in the process of returning home to the United States. Instead, he traveled to Russia. According to the officials, the soldier was arrested late last week in Vladivostok, a Pacific port city, and remains in custody. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss personnel details.

A lawsuit claims that sexual abuse of children at Illinois juvenile detention centers has been widespread and systematic for many years. A complaint submitted on Monday in the Illinois Court of Claims describes troubling stories from 95 men and women who were housed at youth centers when they were kids. The reported abuse at nine youth centers occurred between 1996 and 2017. The lawsuit alleges that the abuse involved gang rape, forced oral sex, beatings, and touching of children by corrections officers, sergeants, nurses, therapists, chaplains, and others. Many of the plaintiffs say they were either threatened or rewarded to keep quiet. The Illinois lawsuit is similar to cases in Maryland, New Hampshire, and New York City.
