Heavy rain is overwhelming southeastern Texas, causing schools to cancel classes and closing many highways around Houston. The National Weather Service on Friday reported over 9 inches of rain during the past 24 hours. The agency has issued a flood warning until Tuesday for the region. A flash flood warning is in effect in the area Friday morning. No injuries or deaths have been reported, but officials have reported several people being rescued from high waters. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo on Thursday ordered a mandatory evacuation for people along a portion of the San Jacinto River in northern Harris County. Hidalgo mentioned that a school bus carrying children needed a rescue after driving into high waters, but that everyone on board was safe.

Police have removed pro-Palestinian protesters from a tent encampment at New York University. The action on Friday comes after weeks of protests and clashes with police at college campuses nationwide that have led to over 2,300 arrests. About a dozen protesters who rejected police orders to leave were arrested early Friday. According to NYU spokesperson John Beckman. New York Police Department officers also disbanded an encampment at The New School in Greenwich Village. At least two buildings were closed and students were unable to attend classes. Meanwhile, nine protesters, including seven students, were arrested at the University of Tennessee on Thursday night.

Maui County is suing major cellular carriers for failing to properly inform police of widespread service outages during the height of last summer’s deadly wildfire. The county is suing Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile USA, Spectrum Mobile and AT&T. The county says it sent at least 14 alert messages to cellphones, warning residents to evacuate. But the county didn’t know those messages weren’t received because of cell tower failures across the island. The lawsuit says the county would have used other warning methods if the carriers reported the service outages as required by federal law.

Artists from Universal Music Group, which include Drake, Adele, Bad Bunny and Billie Eilish, will be returning to TikTok as the two parties have struck a new licensing agreement following an approximately three-month long dispute. The two sides said Thursday that they are “now working expeditiously to return music by artists represented by Universal Music Group and songwriters represented by Universal Music Publishing Group to TikTok in due course.”
