Lawmakers have introduced a $1.2 trillion spending package to help prevent a partial government shutdown for key federal agencies this weekend. The bill was revealed on Thursday, around six months into the current budget year, and would allow Congress to finish funding the government until September. Democrats were mostly able to push back against many policy mandates and some of the larger budget cuts that House Republicans wanted to make on nondefense programs. One of the victories highlighted by House Speaker Mike Johnson for Republicans is an almost 24% increase in detention beds for migrants waiting for their immigration proceedings or removal from the country.
