Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin aims to improve Hua Hin airport, in order to handle additional international flights, and to rename it as “Petch Hua Hin”.
During his visit to the airport today, accompanied by Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit, the prime minister suggested enhancing the airport, which currently serves flights from Chiang Mai, by adding two more flights on Hat Yai-Hua Hin and Malaysia-Hua Hin routes, and potentially introducing a route to a north-eastern province, in order to attract more tourists to the resort town.
After examining all the facilities at the airport, he expressed his belief in the potential for the resort town to draw more visitors, if the existing runway were extended and facilities expanded.
He instructed the transport permanent secretary to determine the feasibility of extending the runway and expanding other facilities at the airport within two years or less.
Regarding the airport's name, the prime minister proposed renaming it as “Petch Hua Hin”.
