Outgoing Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeo has announced his resignation, following the recent departure of former foreign minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara.
Sihasak stated that he decided to resign because he started the role under former foreign minister Parnpree. It is customary for the vice minister to leave when the minister departs.
He clarified that his resignation was not coerced, but he wants to allow the new foreign minister to choose someone from his own political team for the position. Sihasak intends to go back to teaching and consulting.
During his final assignment at the foreign ministry, Sihasak led the Thai delegation at the OECD ministerial meeting in Paris. At the ministry, he was a key figure in the task force for humanitarian aid for displaced people from Myanmar.
