A woman riding a motorcycle got seriously hurt when she and her bike fell into a cable duct manhole, after she hit an unlit steel barrier on a road in Mae Sot district of Tak province Sunday night.
Emergency workers took about 15 minutes to rescue the victim from the two-meter deep duct on Intharasiri Road, in front of Aranyakhet Temple.
While some workers were trying to extract the 18-year-old and her bike from the hole, others were guiding traffic to prevent other vehicles from falling into the dark duct.
Causing traffic jams in the area, several cable ducts have been dug along a 1.6-kilometer stretch of Intharasiri Road, to accommodate communications and other cabling.
There are no lit signs along the steel barriers to alert road users about the exposed ducts.
