Actor Jeff Daniels expressed his desire for voters in the 2024 general election to ultimately elect President Biden during what he described as the ongoing 'war on democracy'.
The actor from 'The Newsroom' stated that former President Trump, the presumed GOP nominee, condescends to Midwestern residents, and these voters in the 'middle' are witnessing the GOP 'ruin itself'.
Daniels conveyed during his appearance on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' that people in the 'flyover country' are often underestimated and insulted by Trump, but they understand the situation. He also promoted his new Netflix drama 'A Man in Full' during the interview.
Daniels mentioned that there are two 'wars' occurring, one within the Republican Party and the other related to 'democracy.' He expressed his hope that voters in the 'middle' will choose Biden in November because the election they truly want to participate in is in 2028.
Daniels expressed his belief that the people in the 'middle,' such as those in states like Michigan, will understand that they deserve better, and he is cautiously optimistic that they will vote for Biden.
He stated, 'I am going to vote for Biden, even though he's old, which also means experienced and wise, traits that may be necessary right now because the election I really want to vote on is the one in 2028, when people are now running with the future.'
Recent polling showed Trump leading Biden among registered voters in a hypothetical match-up — 49 percent and 43 percent, respectively, according to a CNN survey.
