A man passed away today after dropping through a temporary cover over a manhole into a 15-meter deep electrical duct on Ladprao Road in Bangkok.
Rescue workers spent about half an hour to retrieve the man’s body. His name has been kept private. They had to use special equipment to raise the body from the bottom of the duct.
Ohchai Saengpon, a city inspector in Wang Thonglang district, mentioned that he was working at a market near the mouth of Ladprao Soi 49 when he saw the man walking across the road from the opposite side.
As he was reaching the traffic island, Ohchai said the man just vanished from sight. “Two colleagues and I ran to the spot and saw the man was in the hole. He seemed to be still alive at that time,” he said.
Originally, he wanted to go down to help the man but was prevented by someone who said the hole was too deep and he could be putting himself at risk.
A police investigation has discovered that the manhole had a temporary cover, which broke when the man stepped on it. The manhole belonged to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority.
