Monica Lewinsky, who is an author and activist, joined the current trending Taylor Swift meme on Wednesday. She used a well-known lyric from the singer's latest album “The Tortured Poets Department” to reference the media storm she experienced while working as an intern at the White House.
The meme is based on Swift’s recent song, “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” where the singer mentions, “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me.”
In her own interpretation of the trend, Lewinsky shared the lyrics alongside a photo of the White House on X on Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, the post had 17,000 reposts, 116,000 likes and over 6 million views.
Users on X and other social media platforms have been posting the line along with an image of a past haunting memory, childhood hobby or phase of life.
Lewinsky’s contribution to the trend was well-received by hundreds of users. One user replied, “You win this trend,” while another one said, “Tweet of the year.“
Lewinsky gained widespread attention in the late 1990s as a White House intern during the Clinton administration, when her relationship with the then-president was made public. She has since become a strong advocate against cyber bullying.
The trend quickly took over social media platforms after Swift’s most recent studio album was released last Friday. Just two hours after the album dropped, she surprised fans with a double album titled “The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology,” featuring 15 additional songs.
The album became the most-streamed album on Spotify in a single day, within 12 hours of its release, as reported by Billboard. It also became the first album on Spotify to accumulate over 300 million streams in a single day.
