The owner of a gold shop in Roi Et, a province in northeastern Thailand, has been giving out free second-hand student uniforms to help parents save money for the next school term.
Wimol Archasantisuk mentioned that the project could help families save around Bt600 on the cost of a new student uniform, which includes a blouse and a skirt.
He mentioned that the donated uniforms were given by supportive parents.
Wimol thought of the idea because he felt sorry for the parents who had to pawn their gold items at his shop to afford their children's uniforms for the new term.
He emphasized that parents should only take the necessary number of uniform items so that others can also benefit from the giveaway.
His effort has received backing from the community, leading him to extend the project from one day to three due to the large number of donated uniforms by parents.
He stated his commitment to continuing the project every year.
Meanwhile, Ubol Wacharoetayangkul, the owner of a student uniform shop in the southern province of Trang, observed that this time, parents are buying fewer uniform items.
She noted, “In the past, parents used to buy three sets of uniforms, but this year, they only bought one or two because they have a limited budget due to the tough economy.”
