Wolves have stated that two members of their team are not the Premier League athletes who were arrested for suspicion of rape and attack over the weekend.
The two players, both 19 years old and from the same Premier League team, have been let out on bail after being questioned by the police.
It is known that the Premier League club have put on hold both players, until the police inquiry is concluded.
‘Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape,’ a police representative stated.
‘A 19-year-old man was arrested for involvement in an attack and assisting in a rape. Another 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape.
‘Both men have since been released on police bail.’
In response to widespread speculation on social media, Wolves released a statement on Wednesday refuting that the two players are from their team.
‘A newspaper article published yesterday has triggered inappropriate online speculation over the identities of two individuals reportedly under police investigation,’ Wolves’ statement read.
‘While we would not typically comment on ongoing police matters, in order to protect the welfare of our young players, we feel it is necessary to confirm that the allegations to not relate to anyone at Wolves.’
The Premier League required all clubs and personnel to undergo sexual consent training in 2022.
This came after a series of incidents involving players in the Premier League, including Mason Greenwood and Benjamin Mendy.
