After receiving a walk with one out in the beginning of the first inning on Saturday evening, Triston Casas did not come out of the dugout to take his position at first base for the bottom of the inning.
The Red Sox substituted Pablo Reyes to play third base, and shifted Bobby Dalbec to first base.
While the team has not yet made an announcement, their former infielder and current NESN commentator Will Middlebrooks commented on X (previously Twitter):
“I definitely witnessed Casas clutching his abdominal area after the 3-1 swing. A strained oblique would be terrible considering how much more the team has been getting from him.”
Casas had started all of the team’s previous 21 games before Saturday and hit a home run in Friday night’s series opener, marking his fourth home run in his last seven games.
