Former Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) criticized Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) for her anti-Ukraine stance in a CNN interview on Friday.
“Moscow Marjorie has reached a new low,” Buck said said during an interview on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront” with anchor Erica Hill. “You know, during the Russian Revolution, [Bolshevik Revolution leader Vladimir] Lenin referred to American journalists who were praising Russia as ‘useful idiots.’”
“And I don’t even think that Marjorie reaches that level of being a useful idiot here,” Buck continued. “She is just spreading Russian propaganda, and in the process, she is really harming American foreign policy.”
During a House Oversight Committee meeting Wednesday, Greene cited news stories and showed photos she said depicted neo-Nazis in Ukraine. She expressed concern about how discussing “the Nazis in Ukraine and their recruitment efforts that go all around the world” is viewed as misinformation.
Greene, who also filed a motion in late March to remove current House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), argued against foreign aid during an appearance on former White House aide Steve Bannon’s “War Room” podcast Thursday, stating her support for an ‘America First’ economy and her intention to demand it from Republican leaders.
“I don’t care if the Speaker’s office becomes a revolving door,” Greene said, who has filed a motion to oust Johnson from his current role. “If that’s exactly what needs to happen, then so be it. But the days are over of the old Republican Party that wants to fund foreign wars and harm people in foreign lands, while they betray the American people.”
On Friday, the House advanced approved a measure to provide aid to Ukraine in addition to other U.S. allies. The lower chamber supported the foreign aid rule in a 316-94 vote, allowing for deliberation on four bills that offer military aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as well as humanitarian aid for Gaza and other war zones.
It’s not the first time Buck has referred referred to Greene as “Moscow Marjorie”. The Colorado Republican first used the nickname earlier this month when disagreeing with former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) assessment of Taylor Greene as a “very serious legislator”.
“My experience with Marjorie is, people have advised her against filing articles of impeachment on President Biden before he was sworn into office, and against filing baseless articles of impeachment on other individuals in the Biden administration,” he told Erin Burnett in a separate CNN interview.
“And she was never moved by that. She was always focused on her social media account,” Buck continued. “And Moscow Marjorie is currently focused on the Ukraine issue and getting her talking points from the Kremlin to ensure she remains popular and receives ample coverage.”
The Hill has reached out to Greene’s office.
