Chiang Mai authorities arrested two individuals yesterday and found over 36 million baht in cash at a condo and two other spots in Muang district.
Law enforcement mentioned that the confiscated money was part of about 76 million baht, in cash and other assets, which the two suspects, identified only as “Phudit” and “Adisak”, supposedly stole from their business partner's residence in Mae Hia sub-district on April 11.
After the burglary was reported in Muang district the next day, authorities reviewed security camera footage from the housing estate and the potential escape routes of the thieves, as well as recovered stolen items left behind by the suspects.
Authorities eventually located the suspects at a condo in Muang district and apprehended them in the parking lot.
They searched the suspects' condo, a house, and a room at a hostel, finding over 36 million baht in 1,000-baht notes.
The two suspects supposedly confessed that they knew the victim, as they had been in the construction business together for over a decade, but their relationship turned sour about two years ago due to financial issues.
The victim is a contractor who typically purchased used homes or condo units for renovation and resale, possibly explaining why he kept a large amount of cash in his home, according to the police.
