A source has stated that Sony is reviving two of its older game series, amid speculation about the upcoming showcase in May.
So far, Sony hasn’t officially announced a PlayStation event or presentation for next month, but all indications point to the company hosting an event similar to E3 in the near future.
Earlier this month, several insiders suggested that a PlayStation event will occur in May, following a similar showcase held by Sony last year. According to one of these insiders, it will likely feature a Silent Hill 2 remake.
Now, another source has reported news of another remake that will be shown at the event, in the form of MediEvil 2 – which originally came out for the original PlayStation in 2000.
According to a leaker called Orangee, who is claimed to be a playtester, developer Other Ocean Interactive has been remaking MediEvil 2 since 2021. This follows the studio’s remake of the original MediEvil in 2019.
Orangee doesn’t specifically say it will be shown at a PlayStation event, just that it’s coming ‘in May’ – making it unclear whether the game will be revealed or released in that timeframe.
While the leaker doesn’t have a long track record, they previously provided accurate details about the Gravity Rush movie, which was showcased at CES 2024 earlier this year. This is not the kind of information you can simply guess.
Last March, Orangee mentioned a remaster of Gravity Rush 2 is expected to be shown in May, in some form, before its release in the summer. Although plans can change, it appears that Sony is interested in reviving the franchise in some manner, given the movie and the game remaster.
A potential MediEvil 2 remake seems like a bigger stretch – although not entirely unlikely. The original MediEvil remake received a lukewarm response from critics but still made it to the top five in the European sales charts in its first week of release – which might have motivated Sony to invest in a sequel.
Both MediEvil 2 and Gravity Rush 2 also seem plausible, considering that Sony recently stated not to expect any major PlayStation exclusives this year, with neither IP considered a tentpole franchise.
What else could possibly be featured at the rumored showcase? A variety of leaks point to the possibility of a PS5 Pro console making an appearance, while a new Astro Bot is also rumored to be released this year.
