A woman who stalked Harry Styles has been jailed and banned from seeing him perform.
Myra Carvalho, 35, appeared at Harrow Crown Court sitting at Hendon Magistrates’ Court in London, and was said to have stalked the singer by sending him 8,000 cards in less than a month.
She was sentenced to 14 weeks’ imprisonment after pleading guilty on Tuesday to a charge of stalking involving serious alarm or distress, a court official said.
A restraining order lasting for 10 years was also imposed on Carvalho, and she is now banned from any event where the One Direction star is performing.
Carvalho, who had been staying at a backpacker hostel in Kensington and Chelsea, south west London, was also ordered not to contact the Watermelon Sugar singer, directly or indirectly.
She has been told not to enter an area of north west London which was described in the court and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £134.
Styles, 30, was previously said to be ‘really shaken up’ after Carvalho’s actions had a ‘substantial adverse effect’ on his ‘usual day-to-day activities’.
He was said to have returned from a romantic Caribbean holiday with his girlfriend Taylor Russell, 29, when it is claimed he was targeted by the woman in North London.
A source said at the time: ‘Harry was really shaken up. He had spent the start of the month in Anguilla with Taylor and James Corden and he’d had a great break.
‘This happened not long after he had come back. Harry just wants to carry on as normal, but this has been concerning.’
Prosecuting barrister Alejandra Llorente Tasco said in court in February, according to The Mirror: ‘She sent a total of 8,000 cards in one month. Some [were] hand-delivered and others were delivered via a third party company online.
‘This defendant has travelled all the way from Brazil, and has frequently and to an extremely intense nature [harassed Styles] by sending over 8,000 cards and describing sexual urges towards him.
‘She has a partner [in Brazil]… It also causes great concern to the complainant. She hand-delivered letters and wedding cards.’
The publication noted that the court also heard that Carvalho expressed ‘sexual urges’ towards the As It Was hitmaker while her barrister, Clementine Simon, told the court she was suffering from a ‘manic episode’ and may not be fit to enter a plea.
This isn’t the first time he’s had to deal with a stalker, reportedly putting in place extra security after he was targeted by Diana Tarazaga-Orero in 2022.
In the unrelated incident, Tarazaga-Orero broke into the Kiwi hitmaker’s home, resulting in him getting a panic lock on his bedroom and employing a night guard.
