The cabinet has agreed to allocate a budget of 235 billion baht for the 2025 fiscal year today, in order to support the universal health security scheme (Gold Card) for the Thai population, ensuring each citizen receives medical coverage of an average of 3,844.55 baht.
Deputy government spokesperson Karom Pholpornklang stated that the new health security budget represents a 9.53% increase from 2024.
The majority of the funds, approximately 181 billion baht, will be directed to the universal health security scheme for approximately 47 million Thais.
Around 3.5 billion baht is designated for medical services for HIV/AIDS patients, and 689 million baht is allocated for HIV infection prevention. Additionally, 13.5 billion baht will cover patients with chronic kidney disease, marking a 5.46% increase from the previous budget.
Roughly 1.16 billion baht will be utilized for the prevention and treatment of diabetes and hypertension, 78 million baht for patients with chronic psychiatric issues, and 51 million baht for asthma patients.
Karom mentioned that health service spending in southern border provinces and other arid areas is set to increase by around 1.4 billion baht next fiscal year.
