After a day off on Thursday and with a four-game winning streak, the Red Sox will finish their 10-game road trip on the west coast with three games against the Los Angeles Angels, including Mike Trout, this weekend.
Kutter Crawford (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will pitch for the second time this season, facing off against Angels right-hander Griffin Canning (0-1, 9.00 ERA). Crawford performed very well in his first game, allowing one run in six innings, with seven strikeouts, though the Red Sox lost 4-3 to Seattle. On the other hand, Canning struggled, giving up five runs in five innings in the Angels' 13-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
The Red Sox will use a lineup with more left-handed hitters to face the right-handed pitcher. Tyler O’Neill will play in right field instead of the left-handed Wilyer Abreu. Masataka Yoshida will bat cleanup as the designated hitter, Triston Casas will bat sixth, and Reese McGuire will catch while batting ninth.
Boston (5-2) is currently second in the AL East, half a game behind the New York Yankees. Los Angeles is tied for first in the AL West (4-2) after sweeping the Miami Marlins. The Angels have also won four in a row, and Friday will be their first home game of the season.
