A departure from a live action Disney princess, Amy Adams is set to play the lead in Nightb****h as a woman who believes she’s becoming a dog.
Horror movies have become very unconventional and that’s actually the summary of a film which the well-liked Enchanted actress and Oscar nominee has agreed to act in.
The unusual movie will come out on December 6, just in time for Christmas, and is directed by Marielle Heller — the director behind Diary of a Teenage Girl.
Amy, 49, portrays a woman ‘forced into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs’ with her husband, played by Scoot McNairy.
The official description says she ‘gradually accepts the wild power deeply connected to being a mother, as she becomes more and more aware of the strange and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.’
Nightb****h is the on-screen adaptation of Rachel Yoder’s well-received first novel of the same name, with the screenplay written by Marielle.
She also directed A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood and Can You Forgive Me? which earned Oscar nods for Tom Hanks, Melissa McCarthy, and Richard E. Grant.
Director Marielle is not only highly regarded, but she is also known for appearing in various episodes of Queen’s Gambit and Popstar: Never Stop Popping.
When she was announced as the director in 2022, the esteemed director shared: ‘Rachel Yoder‘s book took my breath away. I haven’t felt this way about a book since I read The Diary of a Teenage Girl many years ago.
‘Rachel’s darkly hilarious tale of motherhood and rage made me feel seen. And adapting it with Amy Adams in mind has been the thing that has kept me going through the pandemic.’
The actress from the film Arrival was last seen embracing her wicked side in the enchanting musical sequel Disenchanted.
Following Nightb****h, Amy will star alongside Jenna Ortega in Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel.
She’s also completed filming the comedy The Invite with Paul Rudd and Thor’s Tessa Thompson, which is an adaptation of the Spanish film Sentimental.
Nightb****h is scheduled for release on December 6, 2024.
