Mikel Arteta 'stayed up late' to watch the 'fantastic' ending of Chelsea’s incredible Premier League win against Manchester United.
Two late goals from Cole Palmer led Chelsea to complete the latest ever comeback in a Premier League match and leave United devastated.
Palmer’s penalty in the first half put Chelsea 2-0 ahead at Stamford Bridge after Conor Gallagher’s early goal, but United fought back to take the lead with Alejandro Garnacho’s two goals and a Bruno Fernandes header.
Manchester United seemed to be comfortably securing the game until Palmer equalized with a penalty in the 100th minute and then scored a remarkable winning goal just 82 seconds later.
The late goals triggered wild celebrations at Stamford Bridge, with manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is under pressure, running down the touchline in celebration and several United players dropping to their knees in disbelief.
Arsenal’s title rivals Liverpool were also playing last night against Sheffield United and Arteta was closely following both games.
‘I was watching both games and I stayed up until late because the Manchester United and Chelsea match, it was worth it and it was fantastic,’ the Gunners boss said.
‘The league we are part of is unbelievable. It’s really amazing to be involved in a league with such high-level players and the spectacle they provide. It's just fantastic.’
Arteta’s team played their midweek game on Wednesday, defeating relegation-threatened Luton Town 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea have little left to achieve in the Premier League, but the win against United should give a struggling Blues team motivation for the remainder of the season.
For United, the devastating loss deals a significant blow to their chances of finishing in the top four, with time running out to catch up with Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Following the special match at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino stated: ‘It was amazing. We were the better team today and it was fair that we scored in the final minute.
‘We started really well, 2-0 (ahead), the game was under control, then we made a mistake and suffered an emotional impact. It wasn’t easy to deal with. In the second half we controlled the game (but) conceded in transitions.
‘It was important to finish like that, creating the connection between our fans and players. It’s a very good thing that happened today. It should be a turning point for the fans’ trust in the team.’
