Hollyoaks has excited fans with an unexpected EastEnders interaction, during Freddie Roscoe’s (Charlie Clapham) intense return.
Recent scenes revealed Freddie coming back to the Hollyoaks village at the request of Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe), and he didn’t receive a warm welcome from Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas).
After a confrontation between the two men, Freddie sat down for a drink with Mercedes and Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson), and the conversation soon turned to what he’d been doing during his time away from the village.
Freddie explained that he had been in prison so that he wouldn’t lose his daughter Lexi, who was now living with his mum in South Africa.

Viewers will know that Freddie’s mum, Sandy Roscoe, was portrayed by EastEnders legend Gillian Taylforth, who portrays Kathy Beale in the London based soap.
When Kathy left Walford in 1998, she moved to South Africa to be with brother Ted Hills. In 2006, news reached Albert Square that Kathy had been killed in a car accident, but years later, viewers were shocked to learn that she was actually still alive.
Sandy Roscoe left the Hollyoaks village in 2015, and her move to South Africa was a reference to Kathy’s ill-fated trip, and fans quickly noticed it.
However, the EastEnders connections didn't end there.
When Mercedes asked how she was, Freddie gave her a quick update.
‘She’s good. Working as a carer, giving sponge baths to these two old luvvies, Kev and Bry.’
Hollyoaks and EastEnders fans may recognize the names Kevin Rundle and Bryan Kirkwood, who are the ‘Kev and Bry’ Freddie was talking about.
While Kevin was a long-serving scriptwriter for the Channel 4 soap, Bryan served as Hollyoaks producer, with both resigning in 2020.
Now they both work on EastEnders as scriptwriters, having written numerous episodes together.
The mention of the characters was a fun tribute to the time Kevin and Bryan spent working on Hollyoaks.
