A year after he was seen performing alone at a Caribbean festival, Chance the Rapper has confirmed his separation from spouse of five years, Kirsten Corley.
The couple, who have two kids together, requested ‘privacy and respect’ while co-parenting is figured out and they adapt to the split.
In a joint statement on Instagram, Chance and Kirsten, both 30, wrote: ‘After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways.’
Chance the Rapper, real name Chance Bennett, married the influencer in 2019, after first starting a relationship six years earlier.
The statement continued: ‘We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.
‘God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together.
‘We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you. Chance & Kirsten.’
Together they have daughters Kensli, seven, and Marli, four, with the latter pregnancy announced weeks after their wedding.
Chance and Kirsten have been acquainted since childhood but began dating in 2013.
They hit a difficult period three years later and broke up but reconciled and the No Problem rapper proposed in 2018.
He previously talked about his relationship with Kirsten and how grateful he was to be raising kids with her.
‘I’ve been waking up daily with a newfound gratitude and being very grateful that I’m married right now,’ Chance told People.
‘The fact that me, my daughters and my wife all live in one house together is a huge, huge blessing, so I’ve just been taking that in.’
However, last year the Grammy winner sparked speculation as he went alone to a Jamaican festival and was seen dancing intimately with women there.
In a video shared on TikTok at the time, he was seen shirtless with drink in hand and reclining while the woman, dressed in a tiny costume, danced near him.
Confusing fans online, he then hit her buttocks as another costume-clad woman appeared in the first dancer’s lap.
Chance did not address the Carnival antics at the time but some fans did speculate he and Kirsten had already separated then, as mentioned in their statement.
