According to several insiders, Sony is planning a PlayStation event next month, which could lead to an official announcement for the PS5 Pro.
E3 may be officially over, but gaming presentations in the summer of 2024 seem to be still happening.
Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest is set for June 7, and now it seems that Sony is also planning an PlayStation event of some kind in May, just before the usual E3 season would have started.
As per insider Jeff Grubb, known for accurately predicting these events, a PlayStation showcase of some kind will occur next month.
Grubb shared details about Sony’s plans while discussing the recent ESRB rating for the Silent Hill 2 remake, which he believes will probably be featured at the event.
‘I have heard that there will be a PlayStation event, either a State Of Play or a Showcase, next month in May,’ Grubb stated. ‘So this is probably going to be there.’
He also said: ‘I’ve heard both a Showcase and maybe State Of Play. It seems like it might lean towards a Showcase, it’s definitely in that timeframe of when they did a Showcase last year.’
This prediction has been supported by ResetEra insider John Harker, who previously mentioned in February that Sony is planning a ‘May ‘E3′ show’.
Sony held a PlayStation Showcase took place on May 24 last year, which featured Metal Gear Solid Delta, Bungie’s Marathon, and the initial gameplay trailer for Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
The showcase is similar to the preview events Sony used to have during E3 season in June. However, last year, there were so few major announcements that there was little functional difference between it and a normal State of Play.
A May showcase would also be sensible given the increasing leaks about the PS5 Pro console, which Sony has yet to officially announce. In addition to Silent Hill 2, a release date for Star Wars Outlaws might also be revealed, following its recent rating in South Korea.
Sony has already stated that it has no ‘major’ exclusives in the works until after April 2025. What exactly it means by *major* is still unclear, as the live service title Concord is expected to come out this year, and there are rumors about a new Astro Bot game arriving in 2024.
