The Constitutional Court has announced today that it will review a request to dissolve the opposition Move Forward party.
The Election Commission (EC) filed a complaint and application after the court previously ruled in January that the party and its then leader, Pita Limjaroenrat, violated the law by proposing changes to Section 112 of the Criminal Code and advocating for the amendment bill.
Move Forward must submit its defence within 15 days.
The EC's complaint to the court is based on evidence suggesting that the party tried to overthrow the Constitutional Monarchy, as outlined in the Political Parties Act.
Move Forward spokesman Parit Wacharasindhu commented on the Election Commission's decision to seek the party's dissolution, stating that the party and its legal team have been preparing for this situation.
He urged the media not to assume that the party will be dissolved and mentioned that their legal team will defend the party and prove its innocence.
He emphasized that the issue at hand involves not only the fate of the party but also the establishment of a precedent for Thai politics in the future.
