One person with a gun has started shooting at an elementary school in Finland, according to the police.
At least three children have been injured at the Viertola elementary school in Vantaa, which is north of the capital, Helsinki.
The police were informed about a person with a gun at the school at 8.08am UK time.
A suspect – who is also a minor – has been taken into custody since then.
The school has about 800 students from first to ninth grade, as per local reports.
Finnish broadcaster MTV Uutiset reported that emergency services – including armed police officers – were present at the scene.
According to reports, some of the kids hid while others, who were contacted by their parents on their cell phones, witnessed the incident.
‘The immediate risk is over,’ said Sari Laasila, the principal of Viertola school, but she declined to provide further details about the event.
A police spokesperson confirmed that all the victims were taken to a hospital. Several ambulances are still at the location.
