Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, the leader of the Progressive Movement, has announced that he bought the residence in France where the late former Prime Minister Pridi Banomyong used to reside.
During a TV interview, he expressed his desire to maintain the residence, situated in Antony, a southern suburb of Paris, as a tribute to the Thai political revolution of 1932.
Thanathorn mentioned that Pridi spent his final days in this residence.
He intends to convene a press event in May or June to cover the acquisition and his objective of transforming the residence into a commemorative site, marking the significant political transition in Thai history that took place on May 24th, 1932.
He indicated that he acquired the residence from its Vietnamese owner and has completed the purchase.
Pridi played a crucial role in the 1932 political revolution that converted Thailand from an absolute to a constitutional monarchy.
Pridi is also recognized for his involvement in the creation of Thailand’s initial constitution, thus making a substantial contribution to the country’s progression towards democracy.
He spent his later years in exile, including periods in China and France. He passed away in Paris on May 2nd, 1983.
