Actress Angie Harmon from Law & Order said she has been left ‘very saddened’ after a delivery driver fatally shot her dog over Easter.
The 51-year-old star said the Instacart worker killed her family’s dog Oliver after he dropped off groceries at their Charlotte, North Carolina home.
‘We are extremely upset & very saddened at the loss of our beloved boy & family member,’ Angie wrote on Instagram.
Police said they looked into the incident but did not charge the driver, stating that it was an act of self-defence.
Instacart said they were ‘very saddened and disturbed’ by the events and had ‘immediately suspended’ the shopper’s account on their platform.
On Monday, Angie, who also starred in Rizzoli & Isles and Agent Cody Banks, shared a carousel of pictures of her dog as she announced the news of his death on social media.
In a lengthy post, she wrote: ‘This Easter weekend a man delivering groceries for Instacart shot & killed our precious Oliver. He got out of his car, delivered the food & THEN shot our dog.
‘Our ring camera was charging in the house, which he saw & then knew he wasn’t being recorded.
‘The police let him go b/c he claimed “self defense”. He did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn.
‘He was shopping under a woman’s identity named Merle… the pic is on my story.
‘He shot our dog with my daughters & myself at home & just kept saying, “yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah I did.”
‘We are completely traumatized & very saddened at the loss of our beloved boy & family member.’
In a statement shared with DailyMail.com, Instacart said: ‘We were very saddened and disturbed to hear about this incident.
‘We have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account was immediately suspended from our platform.
‘We have been in direct contact with the customer and are cooperating with law enforcement on their investigation.’
In an update from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to TMZ, the force confirmed no charges had been filed and they were not seeking anyone else in relation to the shooting.
In a statement, the CMPD said: ‘The investigation revealed that a delivery driver arrived at the residence to deliver consumable goods.
‘The driver told officers that a dog attacked him while he was at the residence and that he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog.
‘Another dog was at the home but did not attack.’
Angie became a model at 15 and was featured on the front of magazines like Cosmopolitan and Esquire, before starting an acting career.
She gained recognition by playing Ryan McBride on Baywatch Nights, and later took on the role of Abbie Carmichael in Law & Order, resulting in four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for her performance.
She also appeared in Agent Cody Banks, Seraphim Falls, and Rizzoli & Isles, receiving award nominations including the Gracie Award for Best Actress and People’s Choice Award for Favourite Cable TV Actress.
