Jon Richardson appears very different in the latest season of his Dave comedy series, Meet the Richardsons.
The comedian, who frequently appears on 8 out of 10 Cats, has been changed into an old man using impressive special effects makeup, prosthetics, and grey hair. To complete the transformation, Jon wore different clothes than usual, including a wool cardigan.
Embracing the role of someone twice his age, Jon has been riding around on a mobility scooter and seemed to have a lot of fun doing it.
Jon may be 41 years old, but viewers are likely to have difficulty remembering that when the episode airs later this month.
He adapted his appearance for the fifth season of the mockumentary, which also features Lucy Beaumont (Jon’s real-life partner and accomplished comedian). The couple portray fictionalized versions of themselves in the popular show, where they take aim at the ‘Strictly Curse’ with the assistance of Dianne Buswell.
Lucy, 40, who was nominated for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Programme at the Bafta TV Awards in 2023, has teased what we can expect.
‘The concept for the next season is that we want to create a sitcom similar to Heartbeat with jokes, but because Jon plans to retire soon, he wants to win an award, so he wants the sitcom to be more surreal and abstract.’
She added The Sun: ‘Each of us comes up with ideas for our own sitcom, then we take it to a focus group and we have to come back together’.
Dave has also released a summary that gives us more information about what is to come: ‘Lucy’s career is turbo-charged by her BAFTA nomination and she’s receiving offers from very big to frankly bizarre shows. Jon is okay with Lucy’s success, he’s not competitive at all, and he knows when he’s beaten.
‘So, while Lucy’s busy on Taskmaster, Bake Off, and Celebrity Chinese Whispers, Jon is planning his exit from television, with one last, well-paying job hosting a new daytime quiz show,’ it teased.
‘Meanwhile, at home, a global superstar and her partner move in next door, making it harder than ever to keep up with the neighbors.
‘Lucy’s turning 40 and she’d really like Jon to go with her to Glastonbury to celebrate. He’ll never agree to that. But will they both agree that five seasons of Meet The Richardsons is more than enough?’ We hope not!
The show, which began in 2020, often features celebrity appearances, with celebrities playing exaggerated versions of themselves. Fans can look forward to seeing Amanda Abbington, Ben Shephard, The Cheeky Girls, Gregg Wallace, and Kimberly Wyatt, all making appearances throughout the latest season, starting on April 8.
Lucy revealed that celebrities do not have a strict script and are encouraged to improvise: ‘It really does feel like we’re playing all day, it’s a lovely way to film. I couldn’t imagine learning lines.’
Lucy and Tim Reid, known for their work on Peter Kay’s Care Share, have been successful, winning a Broadcast Digital Award for Best Comedy in 2021.
Jon previously explained to Metro.co.uk how they manage to collaborate while maintaining a healthy relationship.
‘We’re always working on it and trying to balance it while still keeping our private life, which is not easy. I think we're good at it, but there are difficult times because marriage is hard in general. This extra element doesn't make it easier, but overall, I think we're quite good at it,’ he shared.
‘This additional factor doesn't make it any simpler. But I believe we're quite competent.’
The fifth season of Meet the Richardson premieres on April 8 at 9pm on Dave
