Arsenal and Chelsea transfer target Viktor Gyokeres might have a new, higher release clause as Sporting Lisbon aim to secure a larger fee.
That’s according to new reports in Portugal, which report that Gyokeres’ representatives have traveled to Lisbon to discuss a deal that will increase his release clause.
Arsenal are currently leading the race to enlist the 25-year-old Sweden international forward but Chelsea are looking to entice him to Stamford Bridge.
Gyokeres has greatly impressed in the Portuguese top-flight since he joined Sporting from English side Coventry City at the beginning of the season.
He has scored 36 goals and provided 14 assists in his first 40 games for Sporting, sparking interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Sporting are ‘fully aware’ that a record sale is likely in the upcoming summer transfer window.
It was previously believed that Gyokeres had a €50m (£43m) price tag but that may now increase if his representatives can secure him a better deal.
Chelsea made a bid for Gyokeres in January, but it was rejected by Sporting, while the player himself has been cautious about his future.
When asked about Chelsea’s interest in January, Gyokeres told Sport TV: ‘I don’t think about it. I’m here and we have important games to play, I’m focused on that.
‘There’s a lot of talk on social media and elsewhere, but I’m not focused on that I don’t think about anything else. I’m here right now. I’m 100 per cent focused on this and the club.’
