A judge has stopped the use of New Jersey’s “county line” ballot, which could have a big impact on the state’s political system.
U.S. District Judge Zahid Quraishi issued the order on Friday, ruling that Kim’s lawsuit against the system used in 19 of New Jersey’s 21 counties to determine a candidate’s ballot position is likely to succeed.
The ruling means a different structure will be used for the state’s June 4 primary, changing a system that party leaders have heavily influenced for decades.
This decision is a major victory for Kim, who, along with other congressional candidates, challenged the establishment as they run for Senate.
