Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s wife Sam has spoken about the ongoing speculation that he’s about to become the next James Bond.
Reports about the 33-year-old Kick-Ass star caused a lot of excitement among fans when it was said that he had been offered a contract to be the next person to play the 007.
Although this may be the closest we’ve been to confirmation on Daniel Craig’s replacement, Metro.co.uk later found out that he hasn’t been cast yet, as an insider poured cold water on the rumors.
But speculation has continued to circulate, and Sam has now commented on the rumored role, while Aaron has been supported by past Bond stars.
Asked by Jonathan Ross on his ITV show about the rumors, Sam joked: ‘You mean that I might direct a Bond film? The first woman director.’
The Fifty Shades of Grey director added: ‘Carry on speculating. He’d be great.’
Aaron married Sam, 57, after meeting on the set of Nowhere Boy in 2009, when he was aged 18.
Within a year the couple had confirmed their relationship, got engaged, and announced they had a baby on the way – all under intense speculation due to the maturity gap.
‘It’s really interesting. When I directed Nowhere Boy, he wasn’t my husband. When I directed A Million Little Pieces he was,’ she continued.
Sam continued: ‘He gets very intense. It’s quite interesting depending on what character he’s playing.
‘Nocturnal Animals for example, was very difficult. He was not washing, his nails were really long, he was drinking and he was watching a lot of serial killer documentaries.
‘He wanted to be toxic from the inside in order to play such a toxic character.
‘There was one morning when he woke up and thought the bed was on fire but we were actually saging him.’
It was reported earlier this month that Aaron had been officially selected as the next 007 by Eon Productions, which has made most of the films in the series adapted from Ian Fleming’s novels.
The source went on to claim to The Sun that, once that contract was signed the next installment of the spy movie would begin shooting later this year.
‘Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back,’ they said.
However hopes were dashed when a production insider told the BBC that there was ‘no truth’ in them and that Aaron has not been offered Bond.
In August, Aaron was asked whether he had been approached for Bond and gave a cryptic answer, telling Esquire: ‘I just focus on the things I can have in my hands right now.
His remarks followed allegations that he made a strong impression in a confidential tryout for producer Barbara Broccoli at Pinewood Studios in 2022.
In 2022, Sam and Aaron celebrated 10 years of marriage and celebrated by confirming their love for each other through renewing their wedding vows.
They have kids Wylda Rae, 13, and Romy Hero, 12, together.
Aaron is also stepfather to Angelica, 26, and Jessie, 18, from Sam’s previous marriage to Jay Jopling.
The Jonathan Ross Show airs Saturdays at 9.35pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
