The 39-year-old paraglider, who hasn't been named yet, was trying to land in an open field.
In the footage, the cords of his parachute became tangled while he was still airborne.
Shortly after, he crashed to the ground in front of horrified spectators at the tournament.
Two individuals rushed to his aid as the video ended.
This incident occurred on Saturday in Sa Thay District, in the Kon Tum Province.
The man, reportedly from Hanoi, was taken to the Kon Tum Hospital.
Local reports suggest he succumbed to brain and chest injuries.
Doctor Vo Van Thien, director of Kon Tum Provincial General Hospital, informed the media that the victim was deeply comatose upon admission.
He sustained severe brain and chest injuries, as well as broken bones.
According to the doctor, he passed away after three hours of emergency care.
The paragliding tournament was a part of Kon Tum Tourism Culture Week 2024.
It was organized by the People’s Committee of Sa Thay district in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Kon Tum province, and 127 athletes participated in the event.
