Gogglebox star George Gilbey shared a joyful selfie on his social media just days soon before he passed away at 40.
It was revealed on Wednesday that the Celebrity Big Brother personality had died due to an unexpected 'accident at work'.
People have since paid tribute, including fans of Gogglebox and fellow cast member Ricci Guarnaccio.
The police, although not explicitly naming Gilbey, stated that they responded to an incident in which a man fell from a height and was injured. He passed away at the scene.
However, just days prior, Gilbey was active on social media and posted a cheerful selfie on Facebook.
He was wearing a black hoodie and seemed to have just returned from the gym, according to earlier posts.
Earlier in the month, Gilbey celebrated Mother’s Day by sharing sweet pictures with his mom Linda, who also appeared on Gogglebox with him.
He posted a video of affectionate pictures of them together over the years, writing: 'Bestie.'
‘Happy Mumma’s Day to all you Mum’s out there,’ he added.
Linda is said to be devastated by the news, with a source saying The Sun: ‘This will hit his family very hard, especially Linda.
‘First, she lost Pete, now her son as well. She is incredibly emotional.
‘George was like her little treasure.’
The family first appeared on screen in September 2013 on the Channel 4 series, with Linda and Gilbey alongside his late step-dad Peter, before he went on to appear on Celebrity Big Brother the following year, where he finished in fourth place.
They all returned to Gogglebox in 2016, before Gilbey departed two years later and Linda and Pete continued without him until 2020. Pete died in 2021 following a short illness.
Gogglebox is aired on Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
