Morrisons The store has pulled a certain type of cheese from its stores because it was discovered to have listeria bacteria.
The supermarket issued a warning for The Best Taleggio after tests discovered the potentially deadly bug.
Listeria usually causes symptoms similar to flu, but in more serious cases, the infection can lead to serious complications including meningitis.
Pregnant women, babies less than one month old, and people older than 65 are among those most at risk to the bacteria.
In its alert post, the Food Standards Authority said: ‘If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it.
‘Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.’
Tesco previously had to recall its own taleggio cheese in 2021 over worries about listeria.
Research has suggested that the process for making the cheese, which involves regular washing with brine, may leave it at particular risk of contamination.
What is Listeria monocytogenes?
Listeria monocytogenes is the bacteria that causes listeriosis in humans.
While it’s not as common as other bacteria usually found on food like E. coli or salmonella, it can be much more deadly.
Healthy adults usually only have mild infection, which may lead to high temperatures, muscle ache or pain, chills, vomiting and diarrhoea.
But to pregnant women, the elderly and people with weaker immune systems it can be very dangerous.
A big outbreak of listeriosis in northern Italy between 2009 and 2011 was connected to soft cheese.
