Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin mentioned today that there will be positive developments regarding the digital wallet program announced on April 10.
Leading a meeting today to talk about the program, he indicated that the board of the digital wallet program has arranged a meeting on April 10 to review reports related to the program, to be presented by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society about the “open loop” technology that will be used by financial institutions and business operators involved in the program, as well as the Royal Thai Police on legal matters.
Srettha mentioned that all the reports will be gathered and submitted to the cabinet for final approval in April, as he reaffirmed the third quarter schedule for registration by participating stores and eligible members of the public, and the fourth quarter schedule for the distribution of the funds.
The prime minister stated that both the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) and the Bank of Thailand support the timeline, as already outlined by Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat.
He also mentioned that the origin, or origins, of the 500 billion baht required to fund the program will also be clarified on April 10.th.
The prime minister emphasized the necessity of injecting a large amount of money to boost the economy, after Thailand has had slow growth for the past ten years, compared to neighboring countries.
