Stellantis is recalling about 318,000 Dodge and Chrysler sedans globally because the side air bag inflators may burst with excessive force and throw metal pieces at the people in the car.
The recall includes air bag inflators on both sides of certain Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 large cars from the 2018 through 2021 model years.
In documents posted Friday by U.S. safety regulators, the car maker says that moisture may enter the inflators due to a manufacturing issue, leading to corrosion and cracks. The air bags can inflate even without a crash due to high temperatures in the cabin.
Dealers will swap out both side air bag modules. Starting May 3, owners will receive notifications. Stellantis mentioned in a statement on Friday that owners worried about driving their cars should get in touch with the company. It did not say if loaner vehicles would be provided.
Alleged ‘jammer’ sales probed at Amazon
Amazon is currently under investigation for selling illegal electronic devices, including radio signal jamming devices that can be used to confuse drones, thwart security systems and interfere with Wi-Fi networks.
The Federal Communications Commission has confirmed to the Daily News that they are conducting several ongoing investigations into retailers, including Amazon, for potential violations of Commission rules related to the marketing and sale of equipment without proper FCC authorization.
Regulators specify that using a phone jammer, GPS blocker, or other signal jamming device to purposely block, jam or interfere with authorized radio communications is against federal law. It is also illegal to advertise, sell, distribute, import or otherwise market jamming devices to consumers in the United States.
