How do you perform the double decker sex position?
So, what exactly is the double decker sex position? Don’t worry: it doesn’t involve public sex on a big red bus, as the name might imply.
‘The double decker sex position involves the person being penetrated on top lying flat on their partner while facing the ceiling,’ Ness explains.
‘The sex position means the individuals are both parallel similar to spooning, however, it can allow the person underneath to reach around with both arms and hands meaning they can stimulate more of their partner’s body during penetration.’
Naturally, the double decker position isn’t for everyone: it depends on your anatomy, and if you’re into face-to-face sex, then it might not be your favorite.
What are the advantages of the double decker sex position? Why does it feel amazing?
As is often the case with penetration-from-behind sex positions, the double decker can stimulate more pleasure for both participants.
‘This sex position can lead to intense G-spot stimulation for the person on top, as well as focusing stimulation on the frenulum of the penis for the penetrating partner (also called the male clitoris due to its sensitivity),’ Ness adds.
‘It can allow for the person on top to receive extra stimulation as their breasts and other erogenous zones are exposed.’
Similarly, the double decker is a particularly pleasurable position if neck kisses – or your partner’s scent – are a turn-on for you.
As Ness outlines, ‘the person on the bottom can nuzzle into this nerve-packed erogenous zone where pheromones are also intensified.’
Is there anything that can be done to make the double decker sex position even better?
It gets better: enhance pleasure while doing the double decker sex position by incorporating a sex toy or two.
‘A cock ring can be used to help increase the penis firmness; this position is easier when the person penetrating is fully erect,’ Ness suggests.
‘The person on top can either support themselves with their elbows, or change things up a bit and use their hands to self-stimulate or hold a sex toy in place over the vulva during penetration.
‘Raising the person’s underneath buttock with a pillow can help them maintain penetration of the vagina.’
And, if you want to transition from one position into another, you can always start the double decker sex position in reverse cowgirl (also known as when the person on top faces away from their partner).
According to Ness, this can actually make penetration easier because once penetration is achieved, the person on top can lean backwards into the double decker position. Very easy.
Are there any dangers with the double decker sex position?
To do this position, you’ll need lube, but not too much, as you could slip out. Don’t use too much.
Similarly, you might find it somewhat uncomfortable, but you can reduce this by using a soft, rolled-up towel to support the lower back or, as Ness recommends, 'or their partner can slip their hands in the small of their back to add extra support and comfort.'
And, if the person on top has experienced vaginal tears (perhaps during childbirth), then this position could worsen the post-tear scar tissue – so it’s best to be careful at all times. If it feels uncomfortable, then change it.
