An Egyptian person from Egypt was taken by Phuket police to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation last night, after he reportedly did not want to pay a taxi fee, broke the driver’s phone, attacked him, and hit the taxi with a metal bar.
The victim, Suriya Plodmai, informed Thalang district police that he drove the visitor from Patong Beach, in Krathu district, to his accommodation at Banthao Beach, in Thalang district, early Saturday morning.
Upon reaching the accommodation, the visitor used the driver’s phone to call a friend, but declined to give it back when asked by the driver. Instead, he reportedly became very angry.
Suriya was able to get away from the outburst and contacted Thalang police, who responded promptly. The visitor was captured and taken to a hospital for evaluation.
The Egyptian Embassy in Bangkok was notified about the event, so that its officials could reach out to the visitor’s family and organize payment for the taxi driver.
