David RayaSpain head coach Luis de la Fuente planned to substitute Raya at half-time against Colombia.
The Arsenal The main goalkeeper is competing with Unai Simon and Alejandro Remiro to be the first choice for La Roja in this summeryear's European Championships.
Raya has played an important role in helping Arsenal reach the top of the Premier League with Mikel Arteta’s team having the best defence in the English top flight.
The 28-year-old, currently on loan from Brentford, was the star of the recent Champions League penalty shootout win over Porto, saving two of the four penalties he faced, proving he is Arteta’s preferred goalkeeper.
Raya started in goal for his country last night and was mostly unchallenged during the first 45 minutes.
The former Blackburn star was replaced by debutant Remiro at the break.
Unfortunately for the Real Sociedad goalkeeper, he conceded a goal just after the hour mark when Daniel Munoz scored from a Luis Diaz cross.
The Spain manager also gave 17-year-old Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi his first senior appearance, as a substitute in the second half.
Without stalwarts Rodri and Dani Carvajal, Spain had difficulties getting back into the game.
However, De La Fuente was happy to see how his new international players performed against a team that is now 18 matches unbeaten.
‘We wanted them to have this experience. They are important players with a bright future. They still have a long career ahead,’ De La Fuente told Spanish channel TVE.
‘We learn more from losses than from wins. We are content with many things. We wanted to challenge ourselves and keep improving.’
Spain will play Brazil at the Bernabeu on Tuesday and Andorra in June before Euro 2024. Colombia will also head to Madrid next to face Romania at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano.
