WASHINGTON (AP) — American fighter aircraft from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower carrier attacked three hidden storage buildings in areas of Yemen controlled by the Houthi group on Friday night, according to a U.S. official. The official, who spoke on the condition of not revealing their name to talk about a military action that has not been announced, said the ship is located in the Red Sea.
Explosions and attacks were witnessed and heard in Sanaa on Friday night, according to eyewitnesses and videos, some of which were being shared on social media. Videos showed blasts and smoke going up over the Houthi-controlled capital.
There has not been an official confirmation of the injured people or the source of the blasts. Al-Masirah, a Yemeni TV station associated with the Houthis, reported that the city was hit by attacks.
The Houthi rebels in Yemen, who are supported by Iran and have control over much of the northern and western parts of the country, have initiated a series of drone and missile assaults on ships in the Red Sea, which the rebels say is an attempt to compel Israel to stop its conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Houthis have continued their series of attacks despite two months of airstrikes led by the United States.
